Final blog

Firstly, I mentioned about chapter 16.

"Accepting a level of incompetence."

When I started to work at restaurant, my boss said that "If you had questions, you should ask us. We have a responsibility to teach you. Also, you're new comer so it is not surprising you  don't know."

I asked a lot when I had some questions and troubles. It is not shame but the way to learn.

by accepting own ignorance, people can learn and achieve goal.


As author said, to achieve the ultimate level of skill,  you need to accept incompetence. By doing so, you can learn next task.

personal mission statement&Reflection of my presentation

          personal mission statement

To live each day with love, enjoyment and challenge so that I may create peace, enjoy my life and grow up.


First is love. Love gives me the inner peace, also I can give people calm by loving. So, as a daughter, sister, friend, and student, I will love people around me. I will do this by respecting them, accepting them, and staying together to make a better.


Second is enjoyment. It is important for life to live happily. I will live with joy, and it has a good affect on my mental and keeping willingness. I will enjoy my life by experience a lot such as learning new things and volunteering, having faith, being with my friends and family, working, doing hobby and expanding my perspective.


Finally, challenge is also core value for me. Challenge creates chances and better situation. I will try new things with curiosity so that find new me and grow up. I will do this by setting a goal, judging situation rationally, not fearing to challenge, never giving up till achieve the goal.


That is, I will enjoy my life with my loved people, and will overcome difficulty by challenging. This is my central vision and core value.

Yumi asked me that "what is organization needs?"

I was really sorry not to  answer at that time.

Needs are depend on situations. because we face with a variable situation.
What I trying to say was that  volunteers need to understand what           organization want them to do and  Don't push your thought. 
If you good at playing soccer and think that "I want to tell this skill to      children", it is meaningless when there aren't programs related to soccer.

Important thing is knowing what is going on, and offer great flexibility.

Business Communication Systems (AT&T)

Pat Russo who is president of BCN has great leadership to  cohere employees.

                                                      
















She didn't care about the rank of employees, and she encouraged them to propose the solutions and personal ideas. By doing so, she could collect many perspectives and information. It helped to rebuilt the organization.

Her personal sacrifice was remarkable.
Getting information from every employees, she set a line at her home and received the call at anytime.
Also, when she could't take a call, she surely called back.

Noted above was the most impressive action for me.

As author said, showing personal example is important to catch the members' attention.
Before giving order to employees, leaders need to practice by themselves.

Using these strategy, finally she succeeded in remake company.

Risk

"Be willing to take the Big Risk"

But, don't have to take chance if it is unnecessary.

In my experience, taking too mach chance bring failure. I had to find out that which chances are important and meaningful.
Shackleton avoided the impetuous move, so he and his crew could survive.




On the other hand, when risk is justified, leader shouldn't hesitate.

Taking risk create change. Under severe situation, "safe choice" has  few value.  When leaders recognize danger, they need to judge it and take risks so as to advance situation.


About LOG

1, Think about a risk you might take to improve the effectiveness or profitability of your organization. What does this analysis tell you about whether or not take the risk?


In my dorm, there are many food which people leave in the kitchen and social room.

Thus, head of management committee made new rule. if people leave personal stuff, it will be "take it free".
As a result, many people opposed to this rule, and dorm meeting was disturbed.

Head of management committee made new rule in order to dorm cleanness, but this rule is nearly-defunct and created cleavage.

In this case, we couldn't promote situation. We needed more discussion. However, by making new rule, people remind the importance of "dorm cleanness". I hope it has some meaning!!


Mr. Kitashiro's speech

I enjoyed Mr. Kitashiro's speech.

The most impressive words is

"Don't get angry with the bad news. if you got angry, people will never bring the bad news."



I think this tips is very important, because leader need to encourage members in the organization.


Also, 自由闊達ATM is interesting.
I think when leader faced with difficulties, positive attitude would help them and their organization.

Nervousness is spread. Positiveness is also spread. So it is clear that be positive is better!

Lighten up!

In difficult situation, it is important to laugh, celebrate, and have humor. The reason why these elements are important is that  these are influence on coming out of depression, viewing the problems calmly, decreasing fear, and rebuilding organizations to deal with obstacles.

Thus, leaders need to find something to celebrate and laugh, and they can bring humor into a tense situation.




We can use this strategy in our dairy live.
In my case, I often use it at the meeting, presentation, quarrel among friends and so on.
Also I feel ability to make people laugh and relaxes is important. Please imagine the situation of the presentation. Even if presenter make good powerpoint and contents are excellent, audience will be bored if S/he present seriously. So humor is one of the effective tools.

ABOUT LG

Yes, we(about club activity) celebrate after achieving our goal. After the performance, we hang out with members and eat good meal.
And often have fun time when "small wins" are happened. By doing so we can  keep concentration.
Also, our organization is very playful, always somoone make people laugh.

Core Team Work

What I learned are

1,impartiality is important for team.  Al members need to respect each other (However, hierarchy itself is not bad).

2, Leaders shouldn't gain special privilege. For instance, Scot didn't talk to the ordinary members, and it created their anger.

3, Leaders need to apologize when they make mistakes. By doing so, they can raise their credibility.

4, Respecting each other is important for teamwork. It creates social interaction.


I know teamwork is necessary for achieving the goal.
when I go to club activity and committee, I strongly feel teamwork's demands. And teamwork needs to respect each other. If you act selfish, team wouldn't become one.

5, When was the last time you made a personal sacrifice for the benefit of the team?

Last week, I and dorm members decided head of committee. I wanted to become head of accounting committee, but we need to head of checking committee from 2nd year students, because 2nd students have never became this committee's leader. When elderly students quit committees, younger students don't know how to deal with problem, so we have to choose a head from 2nd students. Finally, I became a head of checking committee. it was the latest my self-sacrifice experience.

Stamina

"It is a human tendency to be so concerned about the goal that all else fades into oblivion."(62)

This "Summit fever" should be taken care.
When I was a junior high school student, I did very strict diet.
           
              


Finally, I suffered from poor physical condition.
Too focused on losing weight, I didn't care my health.


I think it's very dangerous situation that leaders lose sight of organization's safety.
They have to keep rational perspective.

"Assess your emotional well-being and stress-resistance. Whom do you turn to when you need to vent?"


When I feel strong stress, I call and talk with my mother and certain friends to keep emotional well-being.
I deal with stress by talking my anxiety. I don't expect advices, but want they to listen.
This way has a good effect on my feeling.


And reason why I choose them is 
they know about me very much, and I know they never reject me.
When I was insensitive situation, I feel I need relief.
I feel calm when I with them, so I talk to them.

How to deal with difficult situations?

Difficulties are not difficulties, It's chance to find new!

When you face with difficulty such as this picture, what do you think of that?

I would think that 
"Oh, Im lucky! I can roll through other way and maybe find good bakery! :)". Instead of "What bad luck!"

I think "Optimism" is the key to live life easily and deal with difficulties, as Shaw said on his blog.
Difficulties are difficulties, but it will be chance by changing your way of thinking.

So, as response of Ken's blog, I would change the difficulties to opportunity. It's a chance to grow.

Finally, I have a question.
As we discussed on last class, What is the bad point of optimism?
I want to know your opinion.

Vision and Quick Victories

Hi, guys. Are you enjoying weekend?


1, Leader need to change their goal if there are chance even though it is a little one.
2, Doing something create impulse, and it will be linked success.
3, Leader have to think about not only their own need but also organization/ balancing is important.
4, Establishing role is important to organization, and It creates order.
5, Leader need to pay attention to organization's member in order to keep their motivation/ give task


These are what I learned in this chapter, Vision and Quick Victories.
Leader need to use some techniques at the same time. It is hard to do it, but leader have to acquire this skill so as to take control of organization, and they can achieve common goal.


About the Log,
I would like to answer question1.

What is your personal leadership vision?
Providing feeling of safety with  organization to get together for common goal. If Shakleton were unreliable man, crews wouldn't have obeyed him and survived. In order to give relief, leader need confidence, rational thinking and don't be selfish. Which leader do you like confident person or lack of it? I think showing confidence is effective to give feeling of safety. Also, indecision makes organization fear. Organization require decisive decision. Also, leader who is self-seeking may makes members in organization disconcert. It creates dividing people and can't have common value.

I chose the "relief", because I felt I don't want to entrust myself to unreliable leader. I think relief is fundamental for trust leader. Without it, people wouldn't  have the same goal such as Shakleton and crews did.

A sense of safety, is one of the key for the leadership, I think!

The Shackleton Saga

I enjoyed this chapter. As Ken said in the last class, Shackleton's decision change was good. If he had kept  challenge, he and crews would have died. I learned leader have to consider not only own-self but also organization.


"This partnership, born of deep respect and shared hardship."(Line6, page 4)
I like this phrase and think exactly right.

I respect all of my friends in some way.
They always game me lots of ideas and values, and I also feel they are caring for me. Thorough these things, I feel I wanna cherish them.

Also, when I think about "hardhsip", I and my friends have worked on together for, for example, ELP, job, soccer practice, festival etc.
These experiences made us deepen the bonds with.

Anyway, I could read it with interests.
 Im looking forward to reading next chapter!

Introduce myself, about Preface and First impression.

Hi, everyone. Im Kanoko.I already talked about the reason why I chose this corse. I loved Ken's ARW class in last term.
Additionally, I was attracted to "Dynamic You". I thought it is a chance to change myself.
Also, I would like to know what the leadership is, and what for.
I'm looking forward to find new me.

About Preface, log.
I think people who want to achieve purpose need patience and trust comrade.
I would like torespond the first log by using my experience.

I have joined a sport team for 6 years as a captain.

 First of all,team is difficult because various people are there and each of them have each opinion and ability.
I gradually got frustrated and hard to control myself.
However, I realized that we have same goal,and in order to achieve it, we did need corporation and I did need endurance and equanimity.
After that,I tried to keep being calm and they got to work harder too.
Through this experience, I learned leader need patience to achieve goal. Also I learned If people do so, they got to get along with companions.

About the first impression.
I enjoyed class and felt first impression can be changed by practice through eye contact, smiling, and hand shaking.
Especially, story of handshaking was interesting. I didn't know that hand shaking can be expressed power position.
I have felt that Im not good at meeting new people, but I would like to try with the skill which Ken told us!
